Bowyard Partners proudly provides pro bono legal support to the Nigerian Montane Forest Project (NMFP) — a pioneering conservation initiative dedicated to protecting and restoring Nigeria's rare montane forests on the Mambilla Plateau in Taraba State.
Since its establishment in 2004, the NMFP has become one of Africa's leading models for ecosystem restoration — combining scientific research, community-led conservation and long-term climate resilience. Working alongside local communities, the project has restored degraded forest landscapes, protected globally significant biodiversity, and empowered villagers to become skilled botanists contributing to internationally recognised scientific research.
The montane forests of the Nigeria–Cameroon highlands represent one of West Africa's most important ecological assets — storing exceptionally high levels of carbon while supporting unique plant and animal species found nowhere else on earth.
