We provided legal advisory services on the concession structuring, regulatory approvals and commercial arrangements for the development of a new port and adjacent green energy facility at Burutu, Delta State. The project involved complex multi-party arrangements between government, a private concessionaire and international development partners.

We are pleased to have advised on a strategic collaboration between Emadeb Energy Group and Greenwave Energy — a transaction that will leverage the complementary strengths of both companies to enhance their operations across the oil and gas industry value chain. The collaboration covers technical support for Emadeb Energy Group's exploration and production operations, midstream infrastructure, retail services and offshore assets, and extends to logistics optimisation, asset performance enhancement, and the development and implementation of operations and maintenance plans, production optimisation strategies and HSE plans. Managing Partner Atiku Jafar joined a panel on "Youth Innovation in Future Energy Technologies" at YES! 2025, convened by EnergyNet Ltd. and the Africa Energy Forum in Cape Town (18–20 June). Drawing on his concerns for energy poverty in Africa, he addressed the legal frameworks needed to accelerate youth-led clean energy solutions in sub-Saharan Africa: enabling licensing regimes, energy sandboxes, model PPAs, standardised contract templates and de-risking tools for early-stage ventures. Atiku was joined on the panel by Gloria Kuyoh, Osman Ayariga, Damilola Hamid Balogun, Abubakar Shuaibu and Banaiah Namuyu.

Managing Partner Atiku Jafar was selected to speak at the Youth Energy Summit (YES! 2025) at CTICC 2, Cape Town, joining an international group of changemakers to explore how young innovators across Africa can shape the continent's energy future. His contribution focused on how policy, regulation and infrastructure can make or mar the transformation — and on the insight, drawn from his work at the intersection of law and infrastructure, that innovation needs the right legal and regulatory frameworks to scale from idea to lasting impact. YES! is convened by EnergyNet Ltd. and the Africa Energy Forum as the largest community of youth energy leaders, job creators and knowledge-sharers across the continent.

We are pleased to welcome new associates to the Bowyard Partners team, expanding our capacity in corporate and commercial, energy and infrastructure, and financial services advisory. The new team members bring experience from a range of commercial and public sector environments.

We are proud to confirm our pro bono legal partnership with the Nigerian Montane Forest Project (NMFP), a conservation initiative focused on protecting one of Nigeria's most threatened forest ecosystems in the Mambilla Plateau, Taraba State. Our support covers environmental regulatory advice, land access frameworks and policy advocacy.

We advised on the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) arrangements for the US$2bn Kano–Maradi standard gauge rail project, including diesel and gasoline facility agreements and fuel-supply contracts for operational infrastructure along the corridor.

We provided legal advisory services on the regulatory framework, community engagement obligations and contractual arrangements for a major shoreline remediation project in Ogoniland. The engagement involved interfacing with NOSDRA, the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency, and community stakeholder groups.

Khalifa Musa and Atiku Jafar represented Bowyard Partners at the Africa Gas Innovation Summit (AGIS) 2024, themed "Igniting the Future: Driving Sustainability in Africa's Energy Landscape through Gas Technology and Innovation." The summit convened policy makers, industry leaders, academic institutions and financial institutions to address Africa's energy challenges — exploring the critical role of innovative technologies in achieving a sustainable energy future, industry-academia partnerships, and the transformative potential of gas as an energy transition fuel. Bowyard Partners remains committed to contributing its legal expertise to fostering a thriving environment for energy innovation and sustainable investment across the continent.

Khalifa Musa and Atiku Jafar attended the Africa Natural Resources and Energy Investment Summit (AFNIS) 2024, themed "Natural Resources for Economic Development." The summit brought together key stakeholders from the power, mining, oil & gas, agriculture and finance sectors to explore investment opportunities, facilitate cross-sectoral collaboration, and discuss sustainable development strategies. Building on past discussions on energy access and the need for a just and equitable energy transition, the 2024 agenda underscored the pivotal role of Africa's abundant natural resources in fuelling economic prosperity and empowering marginalised communities.

Managing Partner Atiku Jafar joined the 95th Power Dialogue in Abuja on 26 June 2024, participating in a panel discussion on the progress made since the enactment of the Electricity Act 2023 and the government's initiatives to create an enabling environment for private sector actors, investors, development partners and state governments. He was joined by Dafe Akpeneye (Commissioner, Legal, Licensing & Compliance, NERC), Osefan Anegbe (Associate, Energy & Natural Resources, S.S. Kohn & Co.) and Damilola Alada (Executive Associate, Bloomfield LP). The dialogue was held at The Ventures Park, 5 Kwaji Close, Maitama, Abuja.

Atiku Jafar was featured speaker at the Virtual Unveiling Webinar of the Energy Law Society, organised by Professor Enefiok Essein Chambers of Justice at the Faculty of Law, University of Uyo. The session — "The ABC of Energy Law Practice: Building a Sustainable Energy Industry in Nigeria" — was hosted by Dateng Best Obadiah, Head of the Energy Law Society, and explored the foundational principles of energy law practice and the legal and regulatory frameworks required to build a sustainable energy sector in Nigeria.

At the Youth Energy Summit and Africa Energy Forum 2023 in Nairobi, Atiku Jafar joined a panel of distinguished professionals at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre to explore what it takes to succeed in the energy sector and why entrepreneurship demands more than good ideas. The panel — featuring Kunle Alao Ph.D, Habiba Ali, Tracy Kimathi, Faith Aweko and Damilola Hamid Balogun — examined entrepreneurial mindset and execution, business idea validation, market research and customer engagement, iteration and adaptation, and the critical importance of identifying and managing legal risks affecting reputation, operations and business finance. Atiku emphasised the need for businesses to build brands around transformative visions and to develop the legal frameworks that allow innovation to scale.

Managing Partner Atiku Jafar was honoured with the Power in Your Hands Award at the Youth Energy Summit (YES! 2023) in Nairobi, Kenya — presented by President William Ruto on behalf of EnergyNet Ltd. and the YES! team. The award recognised Atiku's contributions as a YES! Ambassador and founding member of the YES Army, and his commitment to mobilising young people to drive positive change in Africa's energy sector. Atiku is also Pioneer Chair of the International Council of the African Law Students' Association (ALSA), which has partnered with YES! to upskill law students across the continent.

Bowyard Partners attended the ECOWAS Sustainable Energy Forum (ESEF) 2022 — West Africa's premier sustainable energy event, organised by the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) from 31 October to 1 November. The forum brought together policy makers, regional and international private sector actors, and financial institutions to discuss and improve the policy and regulatory landscapes for private sector investment in sustainable energy across ECOWAS member states. For Bowyard Partners, participation reinforced our commitment to building the partnerships and collaborations needed to accelerate a viable market for sustainable energy solutions across the region.
