Atiku is a Partner at Bowyard Partners where he specialises in various aspects of corporate and commercial law. His expertise includes power & utilities, oil & gas, regulatory compliance, project development & finance and strategic business advisory across sectors such as energy, mining, infrastructure, technology and financial services.

He holds an LL.B from Ahmadu Bello University, a B.L from the Nigerian Law School, a Legal Ethics Certificate from Fordham University Law School, a PGD in Renewable Energy & Energy Management and a Masters in Energy Management at the Centre for Energy & Environmental Strategy Research, Kaduna State University.

Atiku’s experience spans roles such as In-House Counsel at the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC); Head, Energy Practice at Transadvisory Legal; Energy Sector Manager at the Africa Intellectual Property Accelerator (AIPA); and Company Secretary at Transaxis Energy Limited. This diverse background allows him to understand the unique challenges faced by the energy sector, enabling him to provide tailored solutions and navigate clients through complex transactions, regulatory issues and strategic business decisions.

Whether advising on cross-border contracts, negotiating joint ventures or structuring complex arrangements, Atiku has the skills and experience to guide clients through intricate legal landscapes. He has contributed to successful closing of high-value deals such as the CBN National Domestic Card Scheme, the Kano-Maradi railway line, the operationalisation of Burutu Port Concession, among others, where he delivered exceptional results for clients.

He is a highly ethical legal professional dedicated to upholding professional standards, having trained in Legal Ethics from the African Centre on Law & Ethics, White & Case LLP, Fordham University Law School NY, Ghana Institute of Management & Public Administration (GIMPA) Law School & INES-Ruhengeri Law School, Kigali.

His commitment to excellence and corporate governance is reflected in his board memberships, including the Global Advisory Board of the Youth Energy Summit and the Boards of The Axis Group Limited, Transaxis Energy Limited, Zircon Investment Limited, Madugu Jaji Sambo Foundation and the African Law Students’ Association. These roles have instilled in him a deep understanding of social responsibility and corporate decision-making.

He has a thorough understanding of corporate governance principles and works closely with boards of directors and senior management to ensure compliance and drive long-term success. Representative Experience

  • Advised on the Engineering, Procurement and Construction of Diesel and Gasoline Facilities as well as Fuel Supply Contracts relating to the $2 billion Kano–Maradi Standard Gauge Rail Project by Mota-Engil Nigeria Limited.
  • Advised the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) on the development, deployment and issuance of the Nigeria National Domestic Card Scheme “AFRIGO”, the first domestic card scheme in Nigeria.
  • Advised on the concession of Burutu Port in Delta State, Nigeria and the development of Green Hydrogen, Blue Hydrogen, Solar, Wind, Green Ammonia, Methanol, Carbon Capture and other Green Energy projects within the Burutu Private Development Zone.
